Agata Mergler has a PhD (Adam Mickiewicz University) in 20^th century German philosophy. She is a PhD ABD at York University, Toronto with a thesis Cultural Translation and Latin American Digital Art. She works and teaches at an intersection of cultural and media studies, digital art research, cultural translation, comparative literature and contemporary philosophy.

She works with Cristian Villavicencio (UArtes Guayaquil, Basque Country University) in the artistic research project Haptic/Visual Identities since 2015, with group exhibitions film screenings in Ecuador, Colombia, Spain, and at Jihlava IDFF, artist talks at Coventry University, Oregon State University, Amsterdam University, San Francisco University, Quito, and articles and conferences in South and North America and Europe.
She collaborated with prof. Josh Synenko (Trent University) in the project on artistic research, organizing an international conference in 2023 and co-editing a publication of the special issue “Research-creation Episteme” in Imaginations Journal for Cross-Cultural Images Studies 2024.

Her recent articles are: “(What We Do) for the Love of Knowledge and for the Love of Art” in Imaginations 2024, “Walter Benjamin’s Media Theory in the Times of Platform Nihilism” in Violence and Nihilism 2022, and “Documenta Fifteen and Berlin Biennale 12 – Comparative Review” in NECSUS European Journal of Media Studies 2022.

She is also a co-creator of the research group Fantastical Constellations after Magical Realism and co-edited a Canadian Review of Comparative Literature issue on post-magical realism in 2022.

Currently, she is a lecturer at Magdalena Abakanowicz Art University in Poznań in Contemporary Philosophy (Study in English).
