Samir Zitouni, a train crew member critically injured while protecting passengers during a mass stabbing, left hospital on Saturday. The 48-year-old departed Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge to continue his recovery at home.

Zitouni sustained multiple injuries when he intervened during an attack on a London North Eastern Railway train on November 1. The incident occurred shortly after the service left Peterborough station in Cambridgeshire.

British Transport Police said: "Samir Zitouni had been in a critical condition having suffered multiple injuries, and thanks to the efforts of NHS medical staff he's been able to be discharged from hospital today."

Hero's recovery

Zitouni, who has worked for LNER for more than 20 years as a customer experience host, helped save multiple lives during the attack.

Train driver Andrew Johnson contacted a signaller to request an emergency stop at Huntingdon station.

Hospitals treated 11 patients in total for injuries sustained in the incident.

Family requests privacy

Zitouni's family expressed gratitude for public support while emphasizing the long recovery ahead. "We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from the public, and very touched by all the kind words about Sam's brave actions on the night of the attack. While we are really happy to have him home, he still has a significant recovery ahead, and we would now like to be left in privacy to care for him as a family."

LNER managing director David Horne said: "In a moment of crisis, Sam did not hesitate as he stepped forward to protect those around him. His actions were incredibly brave, and we are so proud of him, and of all our colleagues who acted with such courage that evening. [...]"

Police charged Anthony Williams, 32, from Langford Road in Peterborough, with ten counts of attempted murder in connection with the incident.
