Scottish broadcaster STV has announced that its new commercial radio station, STV Radio, will officially launch on January 7 with its breakfast show kicking off at 8am. The station will feature well-known Scottish presenting talent and music from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, targeting listeners aged 35 to 54.
The lineup includes Ewen Cameron and Cat Harvey hosting the breakfast show, alongside popular Scottish voices such as weather presenter Sean Batty, Alan Edwards, and Jane McCarry. The station will be available on DAB and online.
Graham Bryce, managing director of audio at STV, unveiled the full schedule. He said: «The countdown to the STV Radio launch is well and truly under way and we're delighted to unveil our full schedule today. We've assembled an enviable line-up of Scottish presenting talent, with some of the country's best-known and most-loved radio voices, as well as popular TV stars who I'm looking forward to hearing make the transition to the airwaves. STV Radio is made in Scotland for the people of Scotland, and the regional diversity of our line-up reflects our commitment to serving every corner of the country with our daily offering of great music, relatable chat and – most importantly – fun.»
Television licence changes
The radio launch coincides with proposed changes to STV's television licence for north and central Scotland. Earlier this week, regulator Ofcom proposed accepting STV's request to modify its licence.
The planned changes include a new STV News At 6 program from Glasgow that will incorporate content specifically for northern viewers. The National Union of Journalists criticized the proposed television licence changes as «bad for journalism».
STV responded that its news-gathering operations will remain active in all existing sites despite the licence modifications.
